STAYING MOTIVATED

Diet and fitness plans offer great benefits when followed consistently. But sometimes, consistency can be difficult. This is why it helps to find ways to keep yourself motivated throughout your fitness journey.

This blog discusses ways to keep the determination and stay motivated while on the fitness journey.

DEFINING GOALS

Motivation can be built over time through strong foundations and good foundations are established by setting well-defined goals.

Fitness goals could even be as simple as developing immunity or fitting into those jeans that you love. But, rather than just saying, “I would like to be healthier/fitter”, a goal will matter more if it involves process-oriented actions like:

  • “I would like to follow this diet that gets me to eat more fruits and vegetables”
  • “I would like to establish a steady fitness routine where I work out at least 3 times a week and get in 30 minutes of exercise every day”
  • “I would like to have everyday workout sessions to maintain body weight”

A good fitness goal puts more focus on the process rather than on the outcome. Therefore, it helps to define a goal that can be broken down into a day-by-day plan that is doable, measurable, realistic, and time-based.

STICKING TO THE PLAN

Once clear goals are set, the next thing to do would be to consistently follow the plan. And here are a few ways by which you can find inspiration to stick to the plan and continue on your fitness journey for the long-term:

Take help and be accountable for your fitness –

  • Take the help of a fitness coach to curate a diet and workout routine that is appropriate for your lifestyle. A fitness coach can keep a check on your progress and come up with robust action plans for your goals.
  • Share fitness plans with your social circle so that they can help you be more responsible to achieve those goals.

Habits, discipline and progress tracking –

  • Rely on methods like portion control and calorie tracking for your diet while leaving a little room to enjoy your favorite foods through cheat meals or refeeds.
  • Calorie tracking and portion control help to track overall progress and can develop into a habit that becomes instinctive in the long run.

Honor successes –

  • It is important to realize the impact of your achievements to date and find motivation by celebrating those achievements.
  • Also, please do not compare your personal progress with someone else’s since that can undervalue/overvalue those achievements rather than celebrating the moment.

Tackle challenges –

  • You may encounter setbacks on your fitness journey. What is important in such cases is to have a problem-solving approach to fitness and find effective, healthy coping strategies to remove obstacles, stay motivated and work harder.

Positive vibes only –

  • Focus on building a positive body image and choose achievable diet/workout regimes while consciously enjoying your fitness journey.
