DOES AGEING SLOW DOWN WEIGHT LOSS?

Does being old mean you won’t be able to lose weight? Is there any point in exercising then?

These are a few of the questions that keep burning in our minds when hitting the threshold of our early 40s and 50s. Many studies have been conducted by various institutes all across the world to study this and the results were ambiguous. While most of them agreed to the age as a factor for decreasing the rate of weight loss, many institutes beg to differ.

When you age, you lose muscle tissues and for weight loss, it is important to have the muscle mass to be in shape. Other factors of ageing are that your muscles become sore, we gain a little white fat with age, the slowing rate of metabolism etc.

But these are certainly not the major problems that a healthy lifestyle can’t cure. A recent study at Warwickshire Institute of United kingdom showed that ageing does not hamper your weight loss. The age barriers have been made by our mind as an excuse to catering with a lazy lifestyle. The research pressurized on the importance of how a healthy lifestyle is a must for millennials to a happy and healthy body as well as mind. With age, our body loses tissues as well as the need for calorie to survive. Hence ageing does not mean discounting on calorie burns.

So at the end of the day, the power of a healthy and fit body is in our own hands. We can make excuses for dieting not working or anything. But if we make our mind about following the path of a healthy way of living then no power of the world can stop us. The most important tool for weight loss is determination and fortitude. Keep the company of these and you will stay fit.
