TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR IMMUNITY DURING THE PANDEMIC

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the world over and changed everyone’s way of life in some way or the other. Healthcare professionals are fighting on the front lines trying their best to save as many as they can. In a situation like this, what we can do to help is step up our immunity to fight this virus.

Here are a few steps we can take to help our bodies fight the virus, improve our immunity and stay safe.

No.1 – Keep Your Activity Levels High

● Regular exercise proliferates the body’s production of T cells and antibodies which helps up your immunity levels.

● It also releases toxins through your sweat and energizes cells and improves your metabolism. Sweating regularly is a great way for your body to expel pathogens pretty much the same way your body does when you have a fever.

● At least 150 minutes of good activity a week is good. Don’t overdo it as well.

No.2 – Eat Well

● By eating well what we mean here is eat right. Your gut and your immune system are strongly linked so there is a direct relationship between what you eat and how healthy you are.

● Make sure you have a balanced diet consisting of all foods to ensure that your body receives all kinds of nutrients. Remember to include foods rich in pre and probiotic properties to take care of your gut health.

● Another important food source to include in your diet are foods rich in Vitamin C. They help improve your immunity and could act as a shield against free radicals.

No.3 – Get Good Sleep

● As important as activity and nutrition is to the body, so is good sleep. Sleep is required by your body to recover and reboot so you can function efficiently.

● Not getting enough sleep can spike your stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline which could adversely affect your immune system.

● An ideal amount of sleep you can get would be 7 – 9 hours.

No.4 – Good Hygiene Practices

● Make sure to follow the right practices and the quarantine rules and regulations of your society.

● Sanitize yourself when you have to, keep yourself clean at all times and wear the right protective gear like your masks whenever you step out.

No.5 – Stay Active Physically And Mentally

● While you stay at home quarantined, you might find that you have more time to yourself. Keep yourself occupied during this time.

● Try learning something new, maybe an instrument or take up a course that you have been wanting to do for a long time.

● You could even stay at home with your loved ones and catch up on everything you were unable to do because of a hectic pace of life.

No.6 – Get Some Vitamin D In

● If you could spend some quality time out in the sun, could be your terrace or even during your day while travelling somewhere it could help you both physically and mentally.

● Vitamin D can help enhance your immunity and protects you against respiratory illnesses in general. Studies have shown that lower levels of Vitamin D can make you more prone to infections and diseases.

No.7 – Connect With Others

● If you’re not staying at home get in touch with your loved ones. See how they’re doing and this will make you feel better as well.

● This can reduce the increasing feelings of despair and reduces your cortisol levels, keeping you happy and content.

These are some simple yet powerful steps that you can take to strengthen your immunity and decrease the chances of you contracting the virus. Hope you stay safe!
