THE LONG-TERM COMMITMENT TO FITNESS

Fitness needs to be a habit that eventually evolves to become a lifestyle choice. So, let’s talk about the ways in which fitness can be made a habit that we can enjoy every day.

FOOD AND LIFESTYLE

The following pointers can help you stay on the path to eating healthy and maintaining a good lifestyle, while at the same time feeling good about all the changes:

Well-balanced meals and good sleep –

  • A diet plan is necessary since it helps us follow a routine that becomes sub-conscious over time. But what turns this into a lifestyle choice is when we consciously and consistently enjoy the results and benefits of eating nutritious food.
  • Also, never compromise on good sleep since it is essential for the body and mind to reset and function better.

Calories and fun –

  • Calorie maintenance is, of course, a must. But it is also important to not under-eat and build up cravings for later.
  • Enjoy the food. Choose healthier alternatives wherever possible but understand that indulging in favorite foods moderately and once in a while, should not cause any guilt. Focus on calorie maintenance and relish the nutritious food that you eat.

Establish convenience –

  • Always look to include healthier food and exercise options in a way that does not overly disrupt your daily routine.
  • Make the lifestyle changes work instinctively by charting out a diet and exercise plan that blends in with your daily pattern naturally. There are well-experienced trainers and nutritionists who can help you chart out these plans and make sure they work for you.
  • Even if a daily exercise routine is not convenient, that does not mean you have to give up on physical activity. Make the most of your day by taking walks, getting up more often or doing stretches at the bare minimum.

EXERCISE AS A HABIT

When exercise becomes a task or just another thing to be done, it is difficult to make it last. Exercise needs to be a habit that brings peace of mind and must be goal-oriented. Here are some ways by which you can kick-start the process of making it a healthy habit:

  • End procrastination by making exercise a morning routine. This way, the mind has no opportunity to stress about lack of exercise during the work day and this improves the overall impression about fitness.
  • Always approach fitness with a goal in mind to keep you motivated throughout the fitness journey. The goal can be as simple as maintaining a steady routine or building muscle.
  • Do not burn yourself out by taking on too much too quickly and learn to balance out the intensity of your workouts.
  • Record and celebrate your progress but never compare it to the progress of others.

Once you train the mind to view fitness as a way of life, your relationship with fitness becomes a natural process that you can enjoy. So, have fun and keep yourself fit, every day.
