Why so many rumors?
Every industry is rife with rumours which surround the miracle-working capacities of its lotions, creams, and techniques. The weight loss industry is no different. The US weight loss industry grew 4% and increased its profits to $72 billion. The Indian market for weight loss is growing 15% annually, with recent estimations pinning it at $38 billion. With such a huge market, miracle-working weight loss pills, gels and equipment are everywhere. Every industry is taking advantage of the fitness revolution in India – with the food industry, delivery industry and the clothing brands cashing in with their marketing techniques. Athleisure is the new cool clothing, Swiggy has an entire menu begging you to order the so-called “healthy” alternative to regular takeout and big Pharma has its fingers all over this particular pie.

RUMOUR 1: Carbs make you fat
Those poor carbs. All they gave us was energy and we mean-girled them so quick. The easiest way to remember the truth of the matter is that an excess of calories make you gain weight. Count your calories each day and continue enjoying your carbs. It is important that your diet should consist of all the essential nutrients and fibre required, but discrimination of carbs is just unnecessary. Yep, that’s right, go have that (moderate) quantity of bread!
RUMOUR 2: No eating after 6 pm
Again, studies have shown that the time of the day of night does not matter. It is important to spread out your food so you don’t overeat in one sitting, but don’t let anyone stop you having a dinner with your friends in the name of fitness! Count your daily calories and make sure they are not in excess and you should be fine.
RUMOUR 3: NO indulging in your favourite food
That’s bonkers! Let’s get back to the basics. Fitness is a lifestyle choice and not a short journey to get a summer body. Fitness means having a healthy body and a healthy lifestyle where your health is a priority and you loving it. And if this is a lifestyle then you deserve to have all your favourite foods in it. Being conscious and counting your daily calories is key and when you make this a habit, you can include anything you want as a treat!
RUMOUR 4: Stay away from sugar
Some nutrients are great for you and some are not. Sugar is one of them, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay away from it. It is impossible to escape consuming sugar when you go to with family and friends. Punishing yourself not to eat with them is an extreme decision. Including it in your diet while counting your calories is the best way to have a healthy relationship with sugar.
Have a healthy happy week!
